NIHON KEIZAI SHIMBUN

Industry officials in Japan recently reported that Honda Motor Company plans to release a hybrid electric version of one of its 3-liter-class, six-cylinder vehicle models "as early as next year."

According to officials, the automaker expects to market the new vehicle, which could possibly be a hybrid version of the Acura MDX sport utility vehicle (SUV) or Honda Accord, in Japan and North America.

Officials noted that the new hybrid could potentially cost 20 percent to 30 percent more than regular models, with vehicle performance expected to increase by 10 percent to 20 percent and fuel efficiency to be improved by 30 percent to 40 percent.
