RENTAL EV's FROM SIX AUTOMAKERS NOW AT LAX

LOS ANGELES, Calif., December 9th, 1998 - Los Angeles - A car-rental agency offering 20 electric vehicles (EVs) from six automakers opened today at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), reports the Los Angeles Times. EV Rental Cars (News Notes 6/11/98), which operates out of the airport Budget Rent A Car facility, will offer the EVs for $39.95 per day, roughly what a gasoline-powered vehicle rents for. The company has partnered with Budget and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP); the DWP is subsidizing the cost of the EV-recharging equipment and providing an electric bus to ferry customers from airport terminals. EVs available for rent include the General Motors EV1, Honda EV Plus, Ford Ranger pickup, Toyota RAV4 mini sport-utility vehicle, DaimlerChrysler EPIC minivan and the Nissan Altra EV. Plans call for the company to open EV-rental centers in Beverly Hills, downtown Sacramento and at airports in Burbank, Ontario, Orange County and Sacramento. The LAX office may be contacted at: 1-877-EV-RENTAL.
