BUDGET RENT A CAR OF BEVERLY HILLS AND EV RENTAL CARS UNVEIL ENVIRONMENTAL
VEHICLE FLEET ON EVE OF MILLENNIUM

Budget Rent a Car of Beverly Hills and EV Rental Cars announce the opening of Beverly HillsÍ first environmental vehicle fleet including hybrid and electric-powered vehicles on December 31, 1999.

The opening will be highlighted by a special appearance by Beverly HillsÍ Mayor Tom Levyn who will officially kick-off the fleet at a special ribbon cutting ceremony on December 31 from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Budget Rent a Car of Beverly Hills at 9815 Wilshire Blvd.

Budget Rent a Car of Beverly Hills and EV Rental Cars will be the first rental agency in the world to rent the Honda Insight, the first gasoline-electric hybrid powered car sold in the U.S. They will also be the first to rent GMÍs Gen II EV-1, which can go 100-130 miles before re-charging (offering the highest range of any vehicle on the road), as well as the Nissan Altra, offering the most advanced battery pack of any vehicle on the road.

EV Rental Cars also celebrates its one-year anniversary renting close to 1,500 vehicles. Since its debut, these environmental vehicles have saved nearly one ton of pollution. The opening also marks the third-ever alternative-fuel vehicle fleet location in the nation, following the debut at BudgetÍs Los Angeles International Airport facility in December 1998, and Sacramento in August 1999.

The launch of EV rentals in Beverly Hills is a joint effort between Budget Rent a Car of Beverly Hills and EV Rental Cars with support from Honda, Ford Motor Co., General Motors, Nissan and Toyota. The project is also supported by a competitive bid by the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Air Resources Board.

"Environmental vehicles are a fast, fun and reliable rental option as well as a great way to help the environment," said Jerry Siemons, owner and CEO of Budget Rent a Car of Beverly Hills. "We hope that visitors and residents of Beverly Hills will try these vehicles out."

In addition to the opening, Budget Rent a Car of Beverly Hills and EV Rental Cars will sponsor a "Future Cars" display at the Beverly Hills Millennium Block Party on December 31, 1999 on Canon Drive. The exhibit will feature a display including the Honda Insight, Ford EV Ranger, GM Gen II EV-1, Honda Civic GX and Nissan Altra.

Since 1998, EV Rental Cars has been committed to providing commuters with an alternative rental car choice and addressing air quality issues. Based at the Los Angeles International Airport, the company maintains a fleet of more than 40 vehicles with five additional locations to open in California, as well as additional locations across the country in 2000.
